Czech Open 2006

Percentage of titled players to the overall players is more than 50%. That makes it one of  the strongest open tournaments in the world. So if you want to have a real chess experience never hesitate to take part in the next editions. Hellir Chess Club was represented by 3 players in the open Grandmaster Tournament GM Hannes Stefansson 2569, WGM Lenka Ptacnikova 2193 and Omar Salama 2174. Hannes made a rating performance of 2466 with a loss of 13 elo points and ended in the 121 Place. Lenka made a terrific outstanding 4.5 out of  9 against an average rating of 2359 giving her the same performance and +30 elo points and ended in the 190 Place. Omar made 3.5 out of 9 against a rating average of 2311 with a rating performance of   2226 and ended in the 307 place with   +11 elo points.

 Interesting information about Pardubice Open in General: 

-Pardubice lies at the mid-east of the Czech Republic, 104 Kilometers far from Prague.

-You can go there by train, bus or of course  car , temperature was around the average of 30 degrees Celsius during the day and around 22 degrees Celsius in the nights. This was the negative point in the tournament.

- Pardubice is considered to be one of the major cities in the Czech Republic With a population of 80 000 inhabitants.

-There are a lot of interesting places to visit, Shops for souvenirs, restaurants, and all a tourist or chess player needs.

-The organizing committee offered lots of facilities for the participants including discounts for meals in most of the restaurants of the city, free entry to the Aqua city during the whole tournament which compensated the hot temperature in the playing room.

-There was a huge Chess store inside the tournament hall containing numerous chess books, chess sets and clocks, as well as chess Souvenirs.
